A Unique Stay on the Manitoba Prairie

Jan 25, 2026 | Unique Manitoba Stays

Looking for a unique stay in Manitoba that’s tucked away, quiet, and pet friendly?

Unique Stay Manitoba Airstream

Just outside the city of Winnipeg, near the small town of Starbuck, this unique stay on the Manitoba prairie is shaped by land that has long set its own pace. Sweet Caroline, our reimagined 1978 vintage Airstream, is nestled among mature oak within a secluded stretch of woodland, set back and tucked away from view.

A Private Manitoba Stay, Intentionally Set Apart

Sweet Caroline’s placement was chosen thoughtfully. Access, distance, separation, shade, and shelter were intentionally planned from the beginning, with a long view in mind and privacy guiding every decision — what we ourselves look for and value highly when getting away.

Shaped by trees, distance, and the land itself, this is a place to slow down and stay awhile. It welcomes couples, close friends, pup at your side, moments to yourself, a creative reset, and quiet river paddles.

Just off of the beaten path

Within a 25-minute drive of the city limits, the Down Home Farm property spans 120 private acres — reached by a quiet dirt road — where prairie cropland gives way to woodland and the gentle curve of the La Salle River.

It’s the kind of place that slows everything the moment you arrive.

So good, so good, so good.

Life. Simply. Sweet.

When you enter Sweet Caroline, you step into the living space first — relaxed and comfortable, with room to land. A matching 1970s sofa and chair shape the space and invite you to slow down, whether that’s something warm in the morning or a cocktail as the day winds down.

The kitchen sits at the centre of the trailer and is designed for off-grid living. It’s a place to prepare meals, mix drinks, keep food and beverages cool, and tidy up as you go. A bamboo countertop, pump faucet, subway tile, and a restored vintage icebox support a slower rhythm — one that suits the setting and the season.

Light moves differently here

Windows wrap around both ends of the trailer and along both sides, letting daylight move through the space and drawing in the prairie breeze. With the deep shade of the surrounding oak trees, Sweet Caroline settles comfortably in the evenings — even after warmer summer days.

The interior came together with intention and a lot of heart. Vintage Hiprose wallpaper, wicker, macramé, greenery, terracotta, and aged brass accents came together over time — chosen thoughtfully and lived with as the space took shape. Harvest gold and olive green tones carry throughout, grounding the interior and tying everything together.

Sweet Caroline is fully off-grid

Interior lighting and phone charging are solar-powered, and cell service here is sufficient if you’d like to stream or stay connected. It’s just as easy to unplug and let the quiet take over.

The bedroom sits just off the kitchen, at the far end of the trailer. Soft macramé creates a gentle sense of separation without closing the space in. A king-size bed gives the room an open, comfortable feel, with a dresser on each side to tuck belongings away. Reading lights sit overhead for quiet time with a book before sleep.

When the lights are out, the prairie stays close — birds greeting the early morning, owls after dusk, and the softer sounds of deer moving through the woodland around you.

The experience opens outward

There’s no bathroom inside by design. Sweet Caroline is a warm-season stay, from May through October, and the experience naturally extends outdoors — to the thoughtfully designed loo, the solar-heated open-air shower, and the prairie calm that carries far outside the door.

Outside, the setting continues to unfold. A deck and awning are planned for spring 2026, along with a convenient outdoor cooking setup. The firepit sits close by, positioned for easy gathering as the evening settles in.

Like everything here, it’s taking shape slowly, with intention, guided by the seasons and the setting around it.

Looking Ahead to Hosting

As we work toward welcoming guests in Summer 2026, we’re shaping Sweet Caroline to be a place where much of what you need is already here — with just a few personal things to bring along.

Inside and out, guests can expect fresh bed and shower linens, a well-equipped kitchen for preparing meals and drinks, solar-powered lighting and charging, firewood and fire-starting supplies, outdoor cooking and seating, a solar-heated open-air shower, a charming outdoor loo, screened outdoor space, private river access, and use of a canoe.

Thoughtfully prepared for a comfortable stay

Guests will simply bring their own food and beverages, ice, and clothing suited to changing prairie weather. Those who enjoy time on the water are also welcome to bring their own kayak or canoe, along with life jackets.

Details around quantities, timing, and stay logistics will be shared clearly closer to opening, once everything is fully in place. For now, our focus is on preparing the space with care and intention as we move toward our first season of hosting.

Dog friendly, always

P.S. For those with four-legged companions — we hope you bring them along. Ours certainly wouldn’t have it any other way.
